'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Young People Desperately Seek Information After Alpine Inferno
The families of teens lost after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an agonising wait for answers and appealing for information about their children publicly.
The fire ripped through the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of January 1st. Verified images depict the roof structure igniting as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Authorities have stated that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the disaster, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. Officials stated on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with efforts continuing to name the final individuals.
In the interim, relatives have been posting on social media to request information about their loved ones who were present at the venue that evening.
Appeals for the Missing
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she said.
She added that some of his friends had been found with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they went through an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Further Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend told me they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
