Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
The striker has joined Sheffield United only half a year following leading insulting songs targeting their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a contract with the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year time at Elland Road concluded amicably in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive chants regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue his beloved club away from the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
Everything appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to resurrect his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”
