Suspected Stalker Asked: 'Yet What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A individual charged with harassing Kate McCann allegedly left her a voicemail message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has persistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and information obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test over that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and remains open.
'I Don't Want Money'
One phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "Suppose there is a small chance that I am she? Then what? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a life here in Poland, I only wish to discover," she added.
The panel was advised that by means of electronic messages, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, told the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg struck up a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in the county in last December.
Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had contacted via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be considered genuine in the period preceding the trip to that location, the county, in December 2024.
The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in November 2024, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from utensils at a restaurant.
"We have to take action," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their home, the defendant transmitted a text which expressed: "We are sitting adjacent to the McCanns' home with our lights out like detectives. I had hoped to do this with another person I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The trial ongoing.
