Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he finally felt ready to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Adequate time has passed that I can finally articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced passing more hours together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the production, adding that he could not remember "a single day without joy".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a different essay, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
